What a Year at Ralph Wilson Park!
As 2025 draws to a close, we’re taking a moment to celebrate everything you helped make possible at Ralph Wilson Park this year.
The park’s physical transformation has been nothing short of breathtaking. If you’ve been following along on Flickr, you’ve watched the sledding hill rise, the athletic fields take shape, the shoreline strengthening, and new pathways and trails come to life. Hundreds of locally grown trees and native shrubs have taken root, building a healthier, greener park for generations to come.
This fall, we opened the very first part of the new park: the community-designed, community-built KABOOM! playground on 4th Street!
We also welcomed thousands of you to the park throughout the year. From free, family-friendly seasonal gatherings on one of the coldest days and one of the hottest days of 2025, to sneak-preview visits over the new Ralph Wilson Park bridge, the community showed up with excitement and curiosity. Many of you joined us for behind-the-scenes tours to learn what it really takes to build a world-class waterfront park.
And, we launched the Foolish Club, our growing community of believers who, like Ralph Wilson himself, dare to invest in Buffalo’s future. Your $25 membership will help us keep Ralph Wilson Park clean, safe, and vibrant for everyone. If you haven’t joined yet, now is the perfect time! And don’t miss our Foolish Club Holiday Bash on December 23rd, open to all friends of the park.
It’s been a remarkable year, and next year will be even better as we begin welcoming the community back into Ralph Wilson Park in a big way.
Thank you for being part of this journey with us. Happy holidays, and we hope to see you on December 23rd!

Reflecting on 2025

With December here, we see signs of another year ending. As we have done each year since the project started, this month's Heritage Engagement Project article reviews what we explored throughout the year. From our first microcourse, teaching you how to find five of our region's winter birds, to articles sharing our gifts to the future - play spaces, native landscapes, and community cookout spots, all meant to improve human well-being for generations. If you missed following the project this year, this recap article is a great way to learn about heritage-building at Ralph Wilson Park.
