Sport

The sports fields will be thoroughly updated, including reorienting fields to provide optimal solar orientation, improving drainage and turf systems, and replacing outdated facilities such as comfort stations.

Sport lovers, look no further!

Ralph Wilson Park is designed to include a variety of athletic facilities to serve a surrounding diverse community. A goal from the start was to update the existing sports fields and increase the variety of sports facilities. To that end, the Park’s baseball, softball, and T-ball diamonds, football field, soccer fields, and lawn for kickball games will all be enhanced through construction.

During construction, the sports fields will be thoroughly updated, including reorienting fields to provide optimal solzar orientation, improving drainage and turf systems, and replacing outdated facilities such as restrooms.

Permits

Reserving sports fields requires a permit from the City of Buffalo Division of Parks and Recreation.

Impact During Construction

The sports fields will be taken offline as they are renovated and, in some cases, relocated. The City of Buffalo is working closely with the leagues and teams that use the park during this process. Please visit our construction updates page for more information. The football field will remain open during the first phase of construction.

Baseball & Softball

The nine diamonds at LaSalle Park are used by several leagues, most frequently the West Side Little League, over 200 times each year for both baseball and softball. The diamonds are also regularly used for casual play.

Football

The football field is often used for playing catch and pick-up games. The field also hosts practices and games for the West Side Seahawks, a little league football team.

Soccer

Along with daily pick-up games, the soccer fields are used by several youth and adult leagues, and for large events, like the international soccer tournament that takes place each year on World Refugee Day. The use of soccer fields has increased in recent years as Buffalo’s immigrant community has grown.

We look forward to continuing these partnerships and expanding our outreach to ensure we are engaging as many community sports partner as possible.
